Injections in Your 20s: The Reason Behind the Trend

Injectable treatments like Botox and dermal fillers have long been thought of as anti-aging treatments for the 40 and over set. So why are younger adults in their 30s and even their 20s starting to cash in on the trend? It turns out the benefits of those injections may be more far-reaching than first thought. For younger patients, injectables offer a variety of enhancement options and may even ward off signs of future aging.

Sexy Lips

One of the main reasons 20-somethings are coming in for injectable treatments is to plump up their pout. Smooth dermal fillers like Restylane Silk and Juvederm can be used to add volume and definition to the lips at any age. Injectable treatments offer instant results that can last many months before a touch-up procedure is needed. However, it is important to go to an experienced injector for your treatments to avoid overfilling that looks unnatural and unattractive.

Refreshed Eyes

Even the younger set can have dark circles under the eyes that make them look perpetually tired and even older than they actually are. Dark circles can often be the result of thinning of the skin underneath the eye, allowing the blood vessels to show through. The skin can start to thin in this delicate area sooner, rather than later, which is why you may be dealing with that tired look much earlier than you expected. Dermal fillers can be used to fill in the tear trough, eliminating the under-eye darkness and refreshing the overall appearance of the eyes.

Defined Cheekbones

Cheekbones are something you are either born with – or not. If not, you can create fullness and definition in the cheeks with dermal fillers like Voluma. These thicker solutions are an effective way to add volume where it is lacking, but smooth enough to produce natural results. Speaking of results, some formulations give you cheekbones that last 12 months or even longer before a subsequent treatment is needed.

Muscle Training

Botox is another option for younger patients. This neuromodulator smooths away wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles that form them. When Botox is administered at a younger age, it can actually “train” the muscles not to make the expressions that lead to wrinkle formation. This can ward off aging signs until later in life. Some patients also find that these dynamic wrinkles that typically appear on the forehead and around the eyes tend to form at a much earlier age than other facial creases, prompting them to seek Botox treatments sooner rather than later.

Collagen Boosting

Botox isn’t the only treatment that might prolong your youthful appearance. When dermal fillers are administered early in areas like the nasolabial folds that appear between the nose and mouth, these formulations can have a preventative effect as well. Some dermal fillers stimulate collagen production, which provides additional support to the underlying skin structure.

Collagen is a protein naturally produced by the body that is largely responsible for the smooth and supple appearance of the skin. However, collagen levels begin diminishing as early as our 20s, leading to skin laxity and wrinkles. Boosting collagen at an early age may keep the skin looking smooth and radiant a bit longer.

Early injectable treatments offer a myriad of potential benefits, but they may not be the right choice for every patient. To find out if you are a good candidate for these procedures, contact PCI Plastic, Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery today at 855-338-0261.
